Dual Olympian helps local Gymnasts prepare for Queensland State Championships

Gymnasts from the Cooroy Gymnastics Club had a visit from one of Australia’s most successful gymnasts Bennon Dowrick, as they prepare for the upcoming Queensland Junior State Championships.

Brennon represented Australia at two Olympic games, three Commonwealth Games and seven World Championships. He was Australia’s first ever gymnastics Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist in 1990, a feat he repeated in 1994. He also was Australia’s first Olympic games finalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Brennon Dorick now tours the world as a Motivational Speaker addressing multi-national clients.

His visit was to help the Gymnasts prepare themselves for the upcoming State Championships which will be held at the Sleeman Centre in Brisbane from the 16th until the 20th of September. Through his experience as an elite gymnast he passed on his knowledge about training, motivation, focus and the importance of building strong foundations.

This years Queensland State Championship will host over 1000 competitors from 55 clubs who have qualified for the event. Cooroy Gymnastics Club will send a team of 11 girls and 7 boys who will compete against the best gymnasts in the state in levels 3 - 6.
