Noosa Boys Gymnastics State Championships 2011

Cooroy Gymnasts win 11 medals at Queensland State Titles.

The Cooroy Mens Gymnastics Team headed off to the Queensland State Championships held at the Chandler Sports Center in Brisbane and returned with 12 medals including 6 state titles.

The boys gymnastics team has been training hard under mens head coach Tony Sutton. "We have a great team of boys who aren't just doing well, they are loving gymnastics" said Tony, "All of the boys have been developing their strength and skills over the past few years and they are really starting to put it all together now."

The boys team of Chris Germain, Christian Vassillo, Daniel Somerville, Edison Manuel, Finlay Jones, Jonah Harrison and Ned Baker all took part in individual competition. Chris, Christian, Daniel, Finlay, Jonah and Ned all took part in the Regional Team Challenge competing against teams in their levels from all other Queensland Regions.

The Sunshine Coast Team for level 3 and 4 won gold for the region and were awarded gold medals for their efforts.

• Level 3 Under: Finlay Jones 1st Floor, 2nd Parallel Bars
• Level 3 Open: Jonah Harrison 1st Pommel, 1st Rings, 1st Parallel Bars, 1st High Bar 1st All Around
• Level 4 Open: Ned Baker 3rd Vault
• Level 6 Open: Chris Germain 3rd Pommel, 3rd Rings
• Level 6 Open: Daniel Somerville 2nd High Bar

Noosa Gymnasts compete at Regional titles

The Brisbane Boys College Gymnastics venue proved to be a successful competitive arena for the boys from the Cooroy Gymnastics Club. 

Coach Tony Sutton travelled to BBC on mothers day with five of Cooroys'  brightest young competitors to contest the Sunshine Coast Regional Championships.  All boys contested the six individual disciplines and for all round awards.

The gymnasts have been training hard to compete well at the regionals to qualify for the Queensland State Championships which are to be held at the Chandler Gymnastics Center at the end of June.

Jonah Harrisson finished 1st in the level 3 open competition also winning gold on floor, pommel horse and vault and bronze on high bar and rings.

In the level 3 under competition Finlay Jones finished 2nd overall with gold on floor and vault and silver on rings and high bar, and Edison Manuel won gold in the high bar event.

The level 4 open boys Ned Baker and Christian Vassillo also competed well, with Ned finishing fourth overall with a bronze on floor and Christian finishing 6th overall.

Results from Gold Coast Gymnastics Invitational

Competitors from the Cooroy Gymnastics Club Boys Squad travelled to Miami on the Gold Coast to compete at the Annual Invitational Competition. The boys competed in all six apparatus from level three to level six.

Coach Tony Sutton said, “All of the gymnasts performed very well in the competition. The Gold Coast Event is the main lead up to the regional championships which is to be held over the next few weeks.”

Chris Germain and Daniel Sommerville competed at level six with Chris finishing 1st overall and winning gold on Pommel, Rings and Parallel Bars, silver on Floor and bronze on High bar.  Daniel finished 4th overall in his first competition winning bronze on Floor, Rings and High bar.

Christian Vassallo and Ned Baker competed in level four with Ned finishing 4th overall and picking up silver on Floor and bronze on Rings.

The level three boys also had a great competition, with Jonah Harrison finishing 6th overall with a silver on Pommel. Finlay Jones finished 7th overall with a silver on Floor and a bronze on Rings, and Edison Manuel collected  a 4th on High bar.

“The boys had a great time, and although it was an individual competition the boys team spirit shone through,” said Tony.

Cooroy Gymnasts Perform at Lawnton Competition

The Cooroy Gymnastics Club Boys travelled to and competed at Lawnton Gymnastics Club on Sunday the 16th of April.
