Noosa Gymnasts Compete at AGDA Invitational

The weekend of 13/14th May took a group of excited, motivated and hard working girls to their first competition of the year, the AGDA Invitational held at Deception Bay.

On the Saturday morning we had the level 3 girls comprised of Ashanti, Heidi and Taylah. Heidi placed 6th overall, coming 3rd on vault, 5th on beam and 6th on floor.

Next up were the level 4 girls, Bethani, Cheyne, Monique, Piper and Sarah. Monique placed 2nd on floor, Sarah 5th on floor and Cheyne placed 5th overall, achieving 6th on vault, 6th on bars and 4th on floor.

On Mother's Day the levels 5-7 girls made their mums proud with their achievements. First up was level 5 with Georgia, Izzy and Kaitlyn.

In the under 13's, newest team member Kaitlyn did exceptionally well to achieve 1st overall, with 2nd on vault, 4th on bars, 1st on beam and 6th on floor. Coming in just behind her for 2nd overall was Izzy with 5th on vault, 2nd on bars, 4th on beam and 1st on floor. Georgia in the over 13's placed 3rd overall with 1st on bars and 6th on beam.

Our single level 6 Amie achieved 4th overall with 4th on vault, 1st on beam and 6th on floor.

Level 7 Kaity was 3rd overall with 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars, 3rd on beam and 1st on floor. Kaity showed true champion style when her floor music stopped and she continued with her routine to the audience clapping in time.

For their first competition at their new level for the year Georgia, Izzy, Amie and Kaity did amazingly, well done girls.

Cooroy Gymnastics wins 6 at its Best WAG Regional Results

Gymnasts from the Cooroy Gymnastics Club competed at the Sunshine Coast Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships at Maroochydore over the weekend. A strong field of over 150 gymnast from all of the Regional Clubs contested at the event.  Regional Championships is one of the last qualifying events for the upcoming Queensland Junior State Championship to be held in September.

The two days of competition were the best ever for the Cooroy Club with 6 Regional Champions emerging from the event including one Regional all around winner - Amie Kerz in the Level 5 under division.

Saturday was the Level 6 competition and Cooroy entered one competitor, Kaitlyn Hauser who achieved 1st Vault, 1st Beam, 2nd floor and 3rd all around.

Sunday had an early start with Levels 3, 4 & 5 competing throughout the day.

Cooroy entered eight competitors in Level 3, Lilliana Jones, Imogen Keals, Cheyne Barron, Sarah Janssen, Nia Townsend, Ashanti McLean, Piper Schillert and Bianca Houston.  A fantastic result from all competitors with Cooroy finishing 1, 2 & 3 on Bars.

The Level 3 team were awarded 3rd Club in the Region.

  • Lillian Jones: 3rd Vault and 4th all around.
    Level 3 open:
  • Imogen Keals: 2nd Vault, 2nd Bars, 3rd Beam and 2nd all around.
  • Cheyne Barron: 3rd Bars, 6th Vault, 4th Beam and 5th all around.
  • Sarah Janssen: 6th Vault and 2nd Beam.
  • Nia Townsend: 1st Bars.

Cooroy entered four gymnasts into the Level 4 competition, Isobel Iriondo, Georgia Brown, Rhian Loader and Mia Schild. The Level 4 team were also awarded 3rd Club in the Region.

    Level 4 open:
  • Isabel Iriondo: 3rd Bars, 6th Floor and 6th all around.
  • Georgia Brown: 3rd Vault, 6th Floor and 8th all around
  • Rhian Loader: 6th Beam, 4th Floor and 9th all around

The last event for the day was the Level 5 competition with Cooroy entering just one competitor, Amie Kerz, who placed on all apparatus and finished with the all around Regional Title.

Level 5 Under: 3rd Vault, 1st Bars, 2nd Beam, 1st Floor & 1st all around.

The Gymnasts will now concentrate for the upcoming Queensland Junior State Championship which runs in September for Girls Level 4 - 6.  Cooroy will be entering 4 competitors 2 of whom will represent the Sunshine Coast Region in the Regional Challenge held at the end of the Championships.

Cooroy Gymnastics State Championships wrap up…

The Cooroy Gymnastics Club has had a great year. We have seen large numbers of gymnasts registering and progressing through our development and competitive program. This year the club will have almost 500 registered members for the second year running. The growth has been throughout the club, from kindergym right up to our senior competitive squads and has been especially strong in attracting and introducing boys to the exciting sport of gymnastics.

Our champion MAG and WAG gymnastics teams competed at Queensland Junior State Championships over the September school holidays and had some fantastic outcomes including State Apparatus Champions!

This year the Cooroy Gymnastics Club had 8 WAG gymnasts and 5 MAG gymnasts representing the club in both the Individual and Regional Challenge competitions.

Boys Competitor Lewiis Crump stood out winning two State Championships, on rings and highbar and placing third on parallel bars.

Gymnasts Kaitlyn Hauser, Amie Kerz, Sarah Toffoli, Alana Burr, Hannah Parlane, Lily Hooper, Mackenzie Jones & Finlay Jones all performed with receiving some of their best results all year. We are very proud of how the gymnasts competed, their good sportsmanship and club spirit.

We are now looking forward to next years competitive season as we have gymnasts moving into the senior levels who will compete at senior states for the first time in years for the club and a huge program of junior gymnasts attending junior States than ever before.

We will also be celebrating Cooroy Gymnastics Club 20th Birthday, so a big year ahead of us to come!

Gymnasts from Noosa based Cooroy Gymnastics Club competed at the 2014 AGDA Invitational on 3-4 May 2014.

This was the girls first competition for the year and the hard work is starting to show. All girls have either passes their levels, qualified for states or did PB's. Well done girls!

Noosa Gymnasts compete at State Championships

Nine gymnasts from the Cooroy Gymnastics Club qualified and competed in the 2013 Queensland State Gymnastics Championships at the Chandler Sports Centre in Brisbane.
The championships is the main event for competitive gymnasts throughout Queensland, with over 700 competitors from 45 clubs representing all eight regions taking part.

The team of nine consisted of seven girls; Sarah Toffoli, Chakera Thompson, Shae Miller, Tahlia Duke, Lily Hooper, Hannah Parlane, Nikita Cabrera, and two boys, Jonah Harrison and Finlay Jones.

The girls competed in over all four apparatus in levels 4 and 5 spread over the three days of competition. For most of the girls this was their first time competing at this level which is a fantastic achievement. Whilst no medals were won, there were many personal bests an highlights for all gymnasts over the competition.

Both boys competed all six apparatus at level 5 at this years championships and finished inside the top 10 in the state for their devisions.
